Dr. Pandya graduated from medical school at the University of Mumbai, Mumbai, India, in 2002. Following this, he was involved in medical research at Temple University, Department Of Anatomy and Cell Biology, in Philadelphia and Albert Einstein Medical Center, Pain Center, also in Philadelphia. He completed his General Surgical Residency at Case Western Reserve University Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio in 2010. Following his graduation from residency, Dr. Pandya completed a fellowship in Minimally-Invasive (Laparoscopic) Bariatric Surgery in 2011, as well as a fellowship in Minimally-Invasive Bariatric Surgery, focusing on Revisional Bariatric Surgery in 2012, both at Boston University Medical Center.
Dr. Pandya was most recently employed as a Minimally-Invasive Bariatric and General Surgeon at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Binghamton, NY, where he was instrumental in the development of the hospital’s first bariatric surgical program in 2012. He performed the first laparoscopic R-N-Y gastric bypass at this community hospital and performed a total of more than 100 bariatric procedures since the inception of the program. He also performed a wide variety of general surgical and endoscopic procedures. While there, Dr. Pandya also was employed as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Surgery at New York Upstate Medical University, Binghamton Campus.
Dr. Pandya is a member of ACS (The American College Of Surgeons); SAGES (Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons) and ASMBS (American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery). Dr. Pandya is a board certified general surgeon, experienced in many surgical procedures included but not limited to hernia, gall bladder, appendix, colon, hemorrhoid, and anti-reflux surgeries. Dr. Pandya provides his patients the less-invasive option of laparoscopic bariatric surgery. He works with a multidisciplinary team of bariatric specialists who help each patient through their personal journey, both pre- and post-operatively.
The present criteria for surgical weight loss is a Body Mass Index of 40; or, a BMI of 35 with 2 or more co-morbidities, which include but are not limited to hypertension, sleep apnea, GERD, PCOS, fatty liver, and stress incontinence.
