"Listening well to my patients leads to a close rapport and ongoing collaboration, which results in better medical care."

The doctor-patient relationship is essential for ensuring the delivery of high-quality health care, said Dr. Tarek El Sharkawy, who specializes in Internal Medicine and speaks both English and Arabic.

“I work jointly in a team approach with each of my patients to achieve best results,” he said.  “I always look at the patient as a whole – meaning mind and body – and consider it very important.”

Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. El Sharkawy practiced medicine in Maine for nine years before joining MetroWest Physician Services.  He received his medical degree from the University of Alexandria in Egypt and completed his residency at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia.

A practicing physician since 1998, Dr. El Sharkawy feels that a lifestyle based upon wellness and preventive care is vital to maintaining the best health possible.

“I believe that balance in life, a healthy diet and modest exercise are the most important elements for overall health,” he said.
